Itinerary description

Hwy. 26 river gauge level at 4.4' made this paddle doable. Any lower and a lot of time would be spent dealing with downed trees across creek. Put in at Hwy. 377 was easy, all though slippery. Just ask my paddle buddy as he sampled the mud before getting into his kayak. Parking available and easy to access from highway.

The first .75 miles was fraught with downed trees and took some thought as to how to get past. We did some limbo work, dragging boats over trees while standing on them and good old fashion portages. Once we made it to the confluence of the Ouiska Chitto and 6mile Creek the creek widen up considerably, and downed trees were less of an issue.

Flow rate was fast enough, with the downed trees to rate this moderate. There were times that you had to make quick, strong direction changes to avoid getting caught up in strainers. I actually ended up snapping a foot brace off the track making one such maneuver.

Take out was easy, with a large parking area and easy access. It is a public access used by three canoe rental companies.

Sometimes we are able to cut small branches to allow us to go through, but on second take we pulled over trunk.
