Itinerary description
We made the cross-country loop through Duke's Lake, and the whole area was flooded enough to paddle almost everywhere. The paddles hit bottom in a few places, but the boats never bottomed out.
If you want a good idea of "off the beaten track" or "in the middle of nowhere," go to the first DJI drone video taken from a canoe-launched drone in the middle of Duke's Lake, and you'll get an idea of where we were. The drone was pointed south when it took off and did a couple of 360°s of the lake and the horizon.
Very little wildlife - a few birds and fish, but that was about it. The trails were pretty open, and most of the PVC pipe trail markers from the cattail trail to Duke's Lake are still standing, but a few are down at places where you can make a wrong turn, so pay attention.
If you get lost, head north and hit US 41.
