Itinerary description

NWR Canoe Trail launch is about 4.6 miles [past the SR92 intersection on the south side of US-41 just after the bridge. Pull off to the right just past the guardrail and back up to the ramp. The launch is sand and gravel, shallow and easy.

Head south into the cattail channel for about a half mile and you'll start seeing markers where the mangroves start. Follow the markers to the lake. Pay attention. The last tunnel into the lake is hard to find and tight.

The exit from the lake to the west is also hard to find and the trail back is unmarked so follow the GPS or use an aerial. The cuts through the mangroves can be tricky to find, but all trails can eventually lead back east (use your compass) until you cross the trail out.
