Itinerary description
Louros is a navigable river, which is quite deep (usually a couple of meters deep) and calm. There is a mild flow, which was 1-2 km/h in our case. There are no rapids and there are only a few trees in the water, which still leave a lot of space for a kayak to pass. Despite the area is not wild, the vegetation around the river is quite thick and green and the scenery is beautiful. You will see some swamps next to the river. There are plenty of birds to watch and a lot of the disastrous coypus (myocastors). It took us 6,5 hours from Nea Kerasounta to the estuary of Louros River to Ambracian Gulf, without any real break. It's easy to reach the launch and exit points by any kind of car. I also marked a few waypoints where it's nice to wild camp, if you like. Unfortunately, wild camping is illegal in Greece (except from sunset to sunrise) but it's tolerated in places such as this.
