Itinerary description
Nice, easy, slow paddle with a couple of caveats. Most of this paddle is in abandoned oil field canals, so paddling is straight with little to no winding banks or shade. Nice scenery though. As long as you stay in the marked paddle trail paddling is very easy. We decided to do a little exploring and paddled down/up Sac-A-Lait cut as Wikiloc/Google Maps looked like it was clear all the way. A little past half way the waterway closed in on us making our paddle a little bit more strenuous. There was a small, extremely narrow break in the weeds/grass left over from a surface drive boat cutting through some time back. Eventually it got so choked up I was able to stand in my kayak(not a sit on top nor fishing) and look to see if there was any clear water up ahead. After paddling(use that term loosely) over 100 yards through thick marsh grass and such we broke through into North Coon Slough (we were determined NOT to turn around). Definitely not for the faint of heart.
Park has a good paddling trail map that is very accurate, but actual trail signage is lacking. Good launch and clean bathrooms.
