Itinerary description
In the heart of the basin! Great paddle on a beautiful spring morning. We traveled a fair long ways under the interstate, just because we could. I don't really recommend it. It is hard to understand how really loud the traffic is. We found the south end to be more scenic and there is much more of this waterway left to explore. We did it on a pretty Saturday, lots of boat traffic including huge tourist airboats. Hard to miss 'em, you can hear them coming for miles but they may not see you. I rated it as easy, because it was but be aware, this is a large body of water and the weather can change pretty quickly. Don't get caught out

Osprey returning to the nest. There was a pair tending young. We heard them before we saw them and did not get any closer than this, trying to minimize our disturbance.

And out... the launch is directly across the levee from Pats... guess our next stop.

Hard to know which is louder, air boats or I-10! I agree, it is hard to explain how loud the interstate is.
We met one of the large airboats coming towards us then he turned right and blasted us with the wind and wake. I really do not think it was intentional, he just did not realize how far out his effects reached. Unpleasant. Weekdays are probably a better bet. Raining hard up this way, creeks are up!
Large, noisy misting machine!
