Itinerary description

The Bhadra River is in Karnataka state in southern India, which originates at Gangamoola near Kudremukha, Western Ghats range, and flows east across the southern part of Deccan Plateau through the Bhadra Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, a dam is built across the river near Lakkavalli which forms the Bhadra reservoir.

The sanctuary has rich bird and Animal life. Reptiles reported in the river and the reservoir are the Marsh crocodiles and monitor lizards. Common otter and the Smooth Indian Otter, Gaurs, leopards, Tiger, Sloth bears are also occasionally sighted in the reserve. The wildlife can be viewed by taking a boat ride in the reservoir.

The reservoir is also a popular venue for water sports activities like sailing, kayaking, water-cycling, water-trampoline.

One of the small island formed during during summer as a consequence of low water level in the dam , attracts hundreds of river terns during the breeding season.
