Itinerary description
These tracks will take you down the easier section of the Farmington River in Avon and Simsbury Connecticut. We elected to rent kayaks and canoes from the Huck Finn Adventures group (http://www.huckfinnadventures.com/). They are a small group that places you in the river in Avon and you have the option to be picked up at one of three location, 3, 5 and 9 miles down river. Each was near a bridge, so finding the pickup areas was pretty simple. The trip provided to be so wonderful and comfortable that we did the whole nine miles. This section of the river is very calm and beautiful. It doesn’t get very deep, so that wasn’t a problem. We did stop at the second bridge to enjoy our picnic lunch. We even had a beautiful Bald Eagle escort us part of the way! Huck Finn group was there to greet us when we got done and ferry us back to our starting location (can be hard to find, so look at my tracks). They even stopped at the oldest tree in New England on the way back for our enjoyment. All in all it was a wonderful trip, I highly recommend this section of the river if you’re looking for a “calm” adventure! If you need a boat, get in touch with the Huck Finn group; they will take care of you. Happy boating to all!
