Itinerary description
5 vessels containing 5 souls departed the camping area late morning with the temp in the mid 60's. The launch zone was perfect, shaded with a clean sandy bottom. The wind was blowing at 16 mph with gusts above 25. We were able to slightly hug the west bank that provided a minimal amount of a wind break. Proceeded north and across open waters with the little baby white caps appearing. Once we got to the stump area the group changed from 5 to 3. We continued north to the old car bridge and then turned back south as the hydrilla was very thick. The group then turned from 3 to 1 and the second bridge was inspected. Took a pause to enjoy the serenity and peacefulness of the moment while tucked away from the wind.
Then turned back south and began navigating through the stumps, dragging the paddle so as to slow down the hard push by the wind. Would hold the paddle high into the air to provide speed.
Decided to pursue a westerly finger about a quarter mile only to learn that finger was long and I was running short of potable water.
Turned around again and proceeded to the open water for wave testing. Paddled into and across the open waters with some white caps to experience how this boat handled the waves.
Followed and paralleled the dam to the south until directly across from the camp area. Pointed my head down and commenced to paddling a small furry to cross the open waters that seemed to be getting very choppy. Got all wet from the boat and paddle spray. Life is good.
