Itinerary description

Well, not the paddle we were hoping for as the basin is drawn down for aquatic vegetation control. Go figure, drawing down the water level of the Atchafalaya Basin!

Couldn't launch at Kern's Landing as it was closed. Drove south about a mile to Turtle Bar/Atchafalaya Basin Landing and their launch was open. Launch was $5 per boat, and it must be the only launch open in the area as it was packed. Nice staff and we'll stocked store.

Unfortunately, we had to stay in the channel as mud flats were everywhere. That meant we couldn't get into the trees and were in full sun. Was neat to see how shallow the basin really is, and got to see two giant Asian Carp jump out of the water near our boats. The first one was in between two boats. Luckily it didn't try and jump across our boats.

Any day on the water is a good day regardless of the paddle.

Could go further, but would just be paddling in a channel with no shade.
