Itinerary description
Nice, heavily wooded, shady paddle. Launch is really easy for kayaks. Shore is somewhat sandy and there is plenty of room away from concrete boat ramp. Fairly litter free. Plenty of parking, but no restroom facilities. Hey, its free! Water was low, so most of the paddling was done in less than 2' of water and in some cases less than 8" of water. Some areas have pretty thick duckweed on surface, but no problems navigating today. Lots of neat, old cypress trees and really neat cypress knees. Hardly any motor boat traffic for a Saturday, but it was hot.
As the lake is man-made there is a overflow structure on the south side of the lake which is very sketchy (see pic). It is unmarked and hardly any of the structure protrudes above the water line. Fortunately you can hear the water falling into it. It's up against the levee, so it is not really an issue, but in times of high water it could be hazardous.
