Itinerary description
The launch point is the fourth bridge after the Port of the Islands canal when headed east on US 41. Pull off to the right (south side) after going over the bridge and back up to the ramp. There is signage. You launch into a small cove and quickly enter a tunnel and out into a marsh. Look for the string of cattails that mark the well-hidden entrance to the mangrove tunnel.
We went into the first lake in the chain and went into the two tunnels (NE and NW) that exit the lake instead of going downstream, then came back into the lake and went downstream to the second lake and east the marsh through a cut in the green wall.
The area through the NW tunnel is a very nice, scenic paddle.
We do not recommend trying that cut to the east from the second lake unless the water is very high or unless you enjoy dragging your craft. We flagged both ends of the cut (orange) for reference.
