This fantastic excursion combines a canoe ride along the Raudna river course as well as a walk on the Igatsi nature trail that passes through the largest Kuresoo swamp (11,000 hectares) and preserved in Estonia.
This route is organized from Riisa Rantso next to the town of Riisa in the middle of the natural park. The center also offers accommodation in a beautiful place.
Our guide accompanied us to the start of the route along the Kuusekaara Bridge, the idea was to paddle the river and finish at the same Riisa Ranso where we spent the night, but unfortunately a strong flood made us shorten the route.
The river route has no difficulty when the waters are very calm, the river is wide and the route is very clear. On the way we are contemplating the abundant vegetation, large monumental oaks, water lilies on the water ...
A little further on, the Lemmjõgi river joins the right, and the riverbed becomes wider.
We arrived at a small town called Karuskose, the place is charming with wooden booths, a hanging bridge, a sauna-boat and a deck where traditional canoes were made from tree trunks. We leave the canoe on the boat and continue on foot to find the start of the Igatsi path, in our opinion, one of the most interesting in the park. The route goes through a lush forest above wooden paths. After a while of walking we arrived completely at the Kuresoo wetlands area. At once we find the observation tower from where we can enjoy good views. From here the path winds between tiny ponds of very dark water. It is possible to bathe. The landscape is very open and relaxing, next to the great path that is very cool, probably from bear.
The return can be made by a very lush forest full of ferns and mosses. Soon we arrive at a track, you have to turn left until you find the parking lot of Kuresoo.
This is an area that suffers from heavy flooding in the spring when the melting is completed, is what is known as the fifth station, in some trees we can see the traces of the different floods.
From here the idea was to continue a little more down the river to the Riisa Rantso but the rain made us decide to finish the route a bit earlier.
