Itinerary description
The launch is at the East River launch area south side of US 41. Coming east from Naples, it's 5 miles past Port of the Islands. The cutoff is poorly marked, but it's a quarter-mile past the rest area on the south side. There is a small launch fee ($2.00 / person) and Port-o-Potty and limited parking away from the US-41 right of way, but you can park on the side of US-41.
It's called "Wrong Way Lake" because when you come out of the tunnel just south of the half-mile long lake, there's a tendency to go straight (which is the wrong way) instead of turning left (south) down the East River. If you do go straight, you get to Wrong Way Lake. It's actually a nice paddle to a large lake surrounded by flooded marsh (in the wet season). Today we went out into the marsh ad the paddling was easy. Saw some coots, ducks, and a big flock of red-winged blackbirds.
