Itinerary description
The East River launch is far enough from the Gulf to be spared the effects of the red tide that's causing die-offs along the coast. A wind today from the southwest makes the red tide effects worse.
The launch area has a gate with an electronically controlled lock to open using the correct 5-digit code, which activates at precisely 0800, which is quite late for us, but we've adapted. Most open water is deep enough for paddling, but the marsh is dry. There were few birds, which was a surprise, but many gators. I'd rather have birds.
Nice day for a paddle. Breezy and not too hot. Only saw three people there when we got back to the launch, which is a surprise for a Saturday in season. What a waste of a beautiful resource.
