Itinerary description
It's tough to rank our paddles because the areas can differ, but this paddle ranks near the top. The launch from the rest area is very primitive. Expect to get your feet wet just by reaching deeper water. Then it's a short paddle to the bridge at US 41 and under the bridge. Be prepared to duck low if the water is high. Then it's a 1.75-mile paddle straight down a sometimes alligator-infested canal.
But once you turn to the north, it's a different place. There are always birds, and the vegetation is unique (except for the Brazilian Peppers), and once you get far enough inland, the traffic noise disappears.
