Went there on a family holiday when I was 8 years old. The northern side was a no go zone due to unexploded ordinance from WWII training. The water is a tad yucky at the moment due to low rainfall.
The ICOLL is open at the moment, looks like at least, judging from the amount of tide coming in near the surf. Unless the water was flowing below the sand bar... not sure, but it was crystal clear and quite pleasant near the east-end. The west-end of the trip was on a stagnant little creek with an abundance of cat fish splashing around in shallow water. I wouldn't want to swim there. But overall a pleasant paddle.
