Itinerary description
We've done this paddle a few times, and the only differences between the trips are the tides. We launched on an outgoing tide when the water was still reasonably high, so the current was against us until we hit Mud Bay which was rapidly emptying. We did a half-assed figure eight in Mud Bay and headed back.
When we launched, the water was dead calm and mirror-flat. On our return, the wind had picked up.
Mud Bay is a 200-acre lake with about a 3-mile perimeter and a few small islands, the largest of which is about 6 acres. At high tide, the whole "bay" is easily navigable. At low tide, the entire Bay is a mudflat that attracts a lot of birds. Some channels cut through the Bay, but even these are dry at very low tide.
