Itinerary description
Clam Pass Park is at the west end of Seagate Drive, the west end of Pine Ridge Road, west of US-41. There is a parking fee for non-residents and a parking lot for about 150 cars that fills up before noon on nice days. The launch is into a shallow bay, and it's flat and safe.
The paddle consists of three half-mile-long bays connected by twisting tunnels. Tidal currents can be strong—usually lots of wildlife.
The Gulf was calm, so we went out the Pass into the incoming tide out into the Gulf and paddled north about 3/4 mile until we saw Marker R37. If you're using a GPS, you can see the finger coming off the bay toward the Gulf. You'll have to port across the beach and into the woods, where you'll see an old large white pipe left over from a dredge operation. Follow that pipe. The relaunch area is muddy, so be careful. You'll reenter the middle bay at Marker 25 and can head north from there.
You can't possibly get lost, but the two tunnels leading to the rookery pond are well hidden and hard to find.

Another great trail. Clam pass is a gem. We saw many birds including little blue herons, tri-colored herons, snowy white egrets, Pelicans, green herons, crowned night heron, great herons, osprey and a roseate spoonbill.
