We launched at the South Landing boat ramp and followed the canoe trail signs north to Walker Branch bridge.
We then scooted under the bridge and paddled through dense woods keeping fairly close to land on the left.
We approached the end of the handicap trail and disembarked. You will see a bench and signage. Took the trail up to the Arboretum for a pit stop and then paddled back; this time into the wind. Most of the paddling is in fairly open water although you can opt to hug the shoreline if you desire. The motor boat channel is on the opposite side of the lake than the canoe trail; but you still get some wave action if it is a busy day like today. The water level in the lake was on the high side; so that made paddling in the dense woods easier than usual. Lots of floating logs, cypress knees, etc.
We saw a bald eagle circling around looking for lunch as well as a 4ft gator on a log and geese flying overhead. Spotted a red-headed woodpecker and plenty of cormorants. Great day for paddling!
Good trail and nice write up Chicotgal
