Itinerary description
My friend and I wanted to do an overnight stay on the Buffalo River and get done the following day. The route that was recommended to us from Silver Hill Canoeing (located just south of the 65 bridge) We put in at Baker Ford and got out at Gilbert , she also said that if we rented the canoe after 4:00 p.m. we would did that day for free. We thought this was a good route since all of the upper Buffalo River was closed due to low water levels. I was surprised that in the middle of August 2011 and in the middle of a heatwave across America, that this part of the river was actually floatable, we didn't need to walk the canoe at all… we ran into plenty of rapids and some portions were deeper than 15 feet. So we rowed for about six hours and then found a nice place to camp at Tyler Bend. Continued after various stops at Caves and swimming holes we got to Gilbert, the final destination, around 1:30 p.m. the next day.
