Itinerary description

Another great paddle on the Calcasieu. Like others before, this section requires high water. Numerous downed trees and sandbars would make for a very long day and lots of portages in low water conditions. The river gauge at Oberlin was at 7' and Kinder was at 10' yesterday, about perfect. Good current allowed us to average right at 4 mph and made a short day of a fairly long paddle.

This sandbar was covered up with tents and people when we returned to recover my truck latter that day. Popular place!

Use caution here. No signage or warnings of any kind. We portaged river right. This is private and posted land. It may be possible to portage to the left but it looked pretty difficult.
