Itinerary description

Epic paddle with a perfect crew to handle swift, high water conditions! DO NOT let the pictures of the water fool you into thinking that the water looks calm, no big deal. Those river sections did allow us to take pictures, but more they allowed us to catch our breath and drink water. The river pretty much said you're going this way, and many times that was through flooded woods with swift current, and not in the river channel. Super easy to get cross ways up against debris, trees, etc. with the swift current trying to roll you out of the boat, in a split second. Couldn't let your guard down for long, before the river said "pay attention"!

Glenmora gauge reflected river level at 16.0', and Oakdale showed 20.5. Flirted with "very difficult" rating.

Shout out to Chicotgal, our "eye in the sky" for keeping us from straying too far!

Strother's Crossing

Didn't want to get sideways up against this! The bridge is around a bend in the river, and full disclosure, caught me off guard. I knew we were close, but to come around the bend and see it, with the current pushing you towards it was an "oh sh**" moment. On top of that, the current coming through the woods was at a 90 degree angle from our right, pushing us towards the bridge. I was actually glad to be pushed up a couple of trees right at the road, and able to step out of the boat.

Take out was on the down river, west side of bridge. It was pretty much typical of the river conditions that day, with the river saying "you're not done quite yet". Current was pushing you past point, and directly into a utility pole guy wire, for one last pucker factor. Check out trails from "olmcdon" and "Bigav8r" for pics of takeout.
