Itinerary description
One of four legs of Columbia County's serene 18 Paddle Trail. Really nice people at Outdoor Augusta at Riverside Park, full of knowledge and very helpful. If you don't have your own boat, please use their services. Easy launch, even with the water as low as it was. River levels fluctuate as water is periodically released from upstream dam.
Georgia turtles stand their ground, unlike Louisiana turtles that fall of log at the drop of a hat. We could paddle right up to them and almost touch them. Have to say paddling next to a golf course presented some unique "trash" finds. Golf balls in the water are not something we have ever seen!
Water was low enough in a couple of areas that we had to get out and drag. Sandy bottom was nice. Saw some osprey, which is always neat.
