Itinerary description
In 2020, I twice made a packrafting trip on the river Dender from Schendelbeke to Pollare. This time, I have my eyes set on a more upstream section, i.c. from the village of Deux-Acren, just across the language border, to Schendelbeke, passing via Geraardsbergen.
I put in just after the locks in Deux-Acren on another gorgeously sunny Sunday. A bit further, the river Marcq runs into Dender. Technically, it would be possible to paddle Marcq upstream, but it seems to be forbidden. I therefore continue following Dender to Geraardsbergen through a green environment. In Geraardsbergen I take out before the locks and put back in a bit further. Subsequently follows the rest of the “descent” to Schendelbeke.
I take out at the bridge next to the Gavers recreation area and have a quick bite while a heron is checking my every more from the other side of the river. Soon after, I pack up and hike back to Deux-Acren, where I arrive sooner than expected after a trip of 20 km in 5 hours.
