Itinerary description
At the very end of February, the first Benelux Packraft Meet-up is organized in the Belgian Ardennes by Mathias Michielsen of Fagus Outdoor. Basecamp is at Camping Pont de Berguème, right next to the put-in of the Ourthe Occidentale river. The meet-up is a 2-day event with some 40 participants, and on both days the attendants split in smaller groups to participate in activities to their liking. Conditions are as good as one can possibly expect: crisp and sunny weather, and water flows close to the allowed maximum.
On the first day, I join 12 other paddlers for a descent of the Ourthe Occidentale from the camping until the start of the Nisramont lake. From there, we hike back across hills and valleys, a trip of a bit less than 31 km overall.
