Itinerary description
The launch is from the public boat ramp at Bayview Park ($4.00 fee - by credit card in the unlit machine in the dark - bring a light - machine sometimes charges $8.00- you have to ask for a partial refund).
Paddle south through Dollar Bay and then southwest to the rear of Keywaydin Island toward Bartell Bay. Beautiful paddle, and there are some places you can land and walk out to the beach. We started about 0600 and spent most of the first hour paddling in the dark through the open bay toward Sirius (aka the Dog Star, as opposed to Pluto which is a dog, as opposed to Goofy, but isn't a star, and now not even a planet... but, I digress...). We use head mounted LED lights but only turn them on when something approaches.
It is possible to exit Bartell Bay to the south and re-enter the boat channel to head back north, but the downside is powerboats in the channel. You can also port across into the gulf and come back through Gordon Pass (did that once - never again - powerboats and strong currents). Today we were lazy and came back the same way we left.
The beach was beautiful, the water was warm and calm.
