Itinerary description
Nice, easy paddle until we hit the head winds on the Mermentau. Still not too bad, any stronger and it would have been a chore. Wide, Cypress tree lined shoreline with little development until close to the Mermentau. Shoreline looked like your everyday bayou in south Louisiana. Virtually trash free as well. The amount of Apple Snail egg casings was surprising, but we saw a least two Limpkins, so their days may be numbered. Saw several Ospreys as well. Made a side paddle up to Bayou des Cannes

Baou Nezpique Boat Launch in Jennings
One of two launches located at park. This one is better suited for kayaks. Plenty of parking as well. No fee, but no restrooms.

Petroleum Barge
One of two barges being moved to a loading dock. We had to wait until we got clearance from the tug captain to paddle behind his boat. Didn't want to get caught up in his prop wash.

Mermentau Boat Launch
Newly rebuilt launch with no good area for kayaks. Could be challenging if launch is busy. Plenty of parking, no fee, but no restrooms.
