Itinerary description
Great, mostly shade paddle. Beautiful cypress trees, very scenic. Different cypress knees. Beginning to realize there are multiple styles of cypress knees out there. Water was low, so we couldn't get into one bayou and deffered to another. Saw a ton of Aplle Snail egg sacks, but we also say numerous empty Apple Snail shells. The Limpkin has migrated from Florida to Louisiana chasing its main food source. We managed to see a nesting pair with juveniles.
Weather turned worse so we turned around and high-tailed it back, but we managed to get drenched anyway (found out our dry bags are not really dry at all). Luckily, we dodged the lightning until we arrived back at the launch. There is a nice concrete bridge to shelter under.
Somewhat lengthy drive from Lafayette, but well worth it. Small, free, limestone, single vehcile boat ramp with small dock. Large parking lot across bridge.
Oh, scummy water surface so your boat will have a grungy scum line.
