Itinerary description
Launched out of Kern's Landing for a nominal fee of $2 per kayak/canoe. Self service fee box in use. No specific canoe/kayak launch, but ground gently sloped right down to the water. Little muddy, but not too bad. If you don't mind limestone, then there's the motor boat launch.
Made sure to paddle in the woods/shade, so water hyacinths blocked our way a couple of times, no big deal as we weren't on a trail or channel. Nice, quiet and scenic. Saw herons, an owl and numerous birds; even an alligator hanging out in the grass.
When the airboats were running their tours, the idyllic swamp changed. Those puppies are loud! They came, they went. All part of the experience.
