Itinerary description
Angola Landing - The "Plan" was to put in at the upper Angola Landing, explore Shreve's Bar and take out at the lower Angola Landing. The lower landing was undeveloped, unstaffed and user friendly. Left my truck there and went to the upper landing for launch. A large, unfriendly fella with a gun said, "No" in unmistakable terms. For those unaware, Angola is a maximum-security prison. We took security at his word and left. We tired a couple of other access points; the water was too low to use the public launch at the lock and dam. Two other roads visible on the map south of the dam were gated and locked. So, we were left with an out and back from the lower launch.

Take-out turned put-in for out and back.
With the water level so low it was a long haul from the end of the road to the river. Otherwise, pretty good. Caution, it is hard to recognize from the water, it all looks alike. don't miss your take-out on the return.

The winds were considerably higher than forecasted. Gusty south winds fighting the current made for unsettled waters and uneasy paddlers. Discretion eliminated Shreve's Bar from our plans. We elected to turn back just north of lunch.
Too bad on the no float. Those pictures look like it was a beautiful day.
It was a great day on the water. We talked about the next landing upstream at Knox landing. We were too late in the day to do it, but it is within a daytrip in good conditions.
