Itinerary description
Carter and Kip recently completed a kayaking trip around the Isle of Capri. They reported that the segment between coordinates 25.99955, -81.72946 and 26.00164, -81.72857 was significantly overgrown, making passage difficult. This section is part of "The Woods," an unmaintained recreation trail known for its narrow, winding tunnels.
However, after paddling this segment today, we found it more navigable than they described. The tunnels in this area are still enjoyable, and while some overgrowth exists, it didn't pose the challenge reported.
Marsh Paddlers departed Isle of Capri Paddlecraft Park at 0637 hours on an outgoing tide and entered this segment while facing the outflow. Based on our experience, paddling this section into the current is best, ideally on a descending or rising tide. High or low tides could increase the difficulty and exertion required.
NOAA Charts for August 17 and 21, 2024 (I've included them for you to refer to).
