Paddling through Paradise with a Side of Ducks in the National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Canoe Trail 1
We've logged over 12 paddles on NWR 1, and it remains a favorite. The sign that says "Posted No Hunting" adds the loss of one more thing. I posted a "What's up?" question to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service website.
Mangrove growth presented some challenges at entry and exit points, but fortunately, previously placed flags aided navigation. However, the true highlight of the trip was witnessing several ducks take flight—a spectacle that would rival a flock!
The paddle itself was pure bliss. The scenery is consistently breathtaking, and the tranquility of the water offers a deep sense of calm. It's dark at 0615 hours.
Overall, this trail is highly recommended, but be prepared for some potential navigation difficulties due to the mangroves, and keep an eye out for more restrictions!
