Itinerary description
We departed Bear Point just before dawn at 6:20 AM. Bear Point's tide height was 1.02 ft and remained constant until we completed our paddle. Stan said the forecast winds would increase from 2 mph as we started, and increase they did near the end of the paddle, to 5 mph gusting to 15 mph.
A playful dolphin followed us for a while; the white pelicans were majestic and surrounded by cormorants and other small shore birds. Erosion, the coast's grim reality, had gnawed at the sand of Tigertail Beach; however, the transformation of the canal-like waterway was delightful. The wind-whipped edges weren't the manicured beauty of brochures but a rawness that resonated as an immersion in the journey. The fight for the coast, for its soul, might be extended, but even here, in this forgotten corner, the spark of resilience flickered.
Next time, we'll get drone footage of the remarkable improvement at Tigertail Beach.
