Itinerary description

After a rainy night the day started with sunshine. Southeasterly wind lured me into Gandsfjorden. As usual, choppy waves slowing the progress. Taking pictures means being pushed back as one can see on the track.
Leaving Stavanger’s side of the fjord I crossed over to the wild nature on the eastern shore. Against the wind, it took a while. Here the rock formations were impressive. The smell of forest after a night’s rain was refreshing. Despite the impression of nature, some traces of human activity appear. Deeply anchored in the rock are massive mooring points, which were used to keep the Condeep offshore platforms in place during construction. Those are also found on the opposite side of the fjord. The foundation were laid in a temporary dry dock in Jåttåvågen, now filled and used for office blocks.
Following the shoreline to Lihalsen, I enjoyed many small waterfalls after the rain. From Lihalsen I went home via the East side of Store and Lille Marøy.
Back home the sun disappeared behind clouds - I got the best of the day. By the time of writing it is pouring.

Still some building activity in Jåttåvågen - here the Condeep platforms were built in the 1980s and 1990s.

The hike path around Lifjell passes close to the shore. I walked there many years back.
