From the bay of Hermanus, 120km southeast of Cape Town, the extraordinary nature of South Africa is captured better than elsewhere, a country where you can meet, within 48 hours, whales and leopards, giraffes and penguins as if they lived in the same habitat.
Leaving the parks of the plateaus to the north-east, we reach the bay of Hermanus where, with a slightly attentive eye, it is easy to see the puffs of whales and, with a quick passage by boat, meet them a few meters away.
The whales of this area in winter are the Southern Right Whales (Eubalena australis), easy to recognize because they have typical growths on the snout, as if they were limestone formations.
Even without going by boat, the cliff walk is well worth it - well laid out, amidst lush greenery, with pleasant views.
In addition to the many flowers, it is easy to come across the Procavia capensis, which is somewhat of a poor animal symbol of South Africa (certainly it cannot compete with the Big Seven but it has its dignity).
In short, an easy and satisfying walk!
