War Gorge Nature Reserve southwest of Nieuwoudtville, Northern Cape, South Africa.
Permit is required, for sale at the War Gorge Nature reserve office in the center of Nieuwoudtville (Goedehoop Straat). Here also information about the different day hikes and multi-day routes, suitable weather conditions, the interesting history of this Reserve, and accommodation options (campsites and shelters) in the Reserve.
Access road from the R27, about 6 km west of Nieuwoudtville.
After about 10 km on this gravel road you can park your car at Groot Tuin, here is the entrance to the Reserve and the start of this route.
Walked in winter / early spring. (Summer can be very hot)
There is a crossing of a small river (dry during this walk).
After a good rainy period the area can turn into a true sea of flowers in August / September.
In this Rietvlei route there is a very narrow passage.
Here and there a steep climb between the rocks, the part in the valley between Brakwater and Pramkoppie is very flat and is about open, unprotected terrain.
Pramkoppie shelter is about 300 meters south of my waypoint.
Beautiful views from Bokkeveld mountains plateau over the Knegsveld.
