Itinerary description
Wonderful and varied hike to the cabane de arpitettaz.
Ascent via pas de chasseurs has one difficult part. Fun for experienced hikers.
Best views of the weisshorn and the besso going up. Also all the ‘grand couronne’ mountains in view including matterhorn.
From the arpitettaz the return takes us over the col de milon. Some steep morraine traverses and the descent again with some chains. No special equipment needed except some good hiking experience.
Again stunning views on the glacier of the weisshorn.
Past the col, the descent is well marked but watch out at the bottom: here the track takes a left towards the plains of the ‘torrent du barme’. This part requires gps tracking or experience traversing easy alpine terrain by sight without clear paths.
The torrent du barme plain is a wonderful undisturbed plain. True nature.
After the plain a short ascent to the roc the la vache is worth it: watch down to zinal almost vertically.
Descent down is well marked and easy. We chose to go down via the regular path and not again use the pas de chasseur to get some diversity.
Hence the loop ends up like a perfect 8 where you can choose to do parts only.
