Itinerary description

This route starts at the entrance where you have to buy your tickets (we were also offered cotton gloves against the dirt), and finishes in a small Tujia village. You walk upstream one way only. The path is usually in the shade of the canyon and sometimes very close to water, so you better bring a waterproof bag for your camera. We have encountered quite a few tourists, so it cannot be called a “secret” spot any more.
Sometimes you have to walk on metal steps and with the help of metal chains. The ground is humid and slippery, so bring good walking shoes. During the trek there are no shops which is why you should bring enough drinking water.
The hike ends in a small village of the Tujia minority people, some of whom we already saw in their traditional costumes during our walk. At the end of the hike you will also see people offering local food for sale such as smoked bacon.
At least in summer, you can have lunch at a house in the village with fresh ingredients from the area.
