Itinerary description
Enjoy this 6.2-mile loop trail near Zermatt, Valais. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 10 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and running.
This beautiful path begins in Zermatt and leads to a mountain lake. It runs through the small and charming mountain village of Zmutt and crosses a stream. On the way you will see a pretty chapel. The hike is sunny at the beginning and continues in the shade. In winter the path is covered with snow, but is passable. Walking sticks are recommended.

I did the trail counter clockwise, and I’m glad I did. The left side of the gorge is mostly paved, and I’m not a huge fan of that. I followed the fork to the right and after crossing at the dam, found a trail that veered from the AllTrails route but took me down into the forest and off the paved road. Highly recommend!
Did most of this loop in early May. It was nice to leave crowded Zermatt behind us and find this quiet and empty trail, with nice views of surrounding mountains. The path through the dam was closed so we took the route through Zmutt (which looked abandoned for the low season). That's the nice thing about this trail - it's totally adjustable, so you can fit it to your needs and schedule. We started around 5pm and were still able to see most of it, it was pretty easy at this time of yea
o beautiful!! We ended up doing an out and back trail instead of the loop because we could not stop getting views of the Matterhorn. You can make this trail as long or short as you want. Very well marked and maintained and not too busy. Highly recommend!!
loop trail that starts in Zermatt and goes up to Schtaffla and then circles back near Furi but then cuts down into Zum See and then back to Zermatt. You reconnect with original trail (fork in the road in the beginning) and head back into Zermatt. Beautiful trail but you do lose sight of the Matterhorn once you get past Schtaff
