Itinerary description

GRDOSELO-ZELENGRAD-GRDOSELO
The walking trail Stari grad (Zelengrad) starts in Grdosel (8 km north of Pazin), near the parish church of the Name of Mary. It is marked with several types of markings and labels. The first part of the path is marked with red and white hiking markings, because it is part of the Pazin hiking route, which leads from Pazin to the top of Učka and Ćićari. The second part of the path, which leads from the Old Town back to the Grdoselo canyon of the Grdoselski brook, is marked with yellow - green hiking marks. The first part of the track is available all year round, while the other part of the track is not recommended in the rainy season, due to the slippery course and the multiple crossing of the stream.
From the church of Giordosel we go downhill through the village in the direction of the north, and after 250 m we reach the intersection with the striking tree of the ladoni. Asphalt turns left towards the cemetery, and we continue in the direction of the north, a sharp downhill on a rut, passing a double "S" turn and leaving the road on the first next turn and continue through the pine forest in the northeast. After 200 m, the trail breaks through the eroded fleisch and descends into the valley to a smaller stream. You cross the brook and through the shady hole you strike a road that leads uphill in the direction of the north. Soon we come to the marked intersection, where we leave the Pazin hiking trail and turn left. Immediately after the turn, about ten meters outside the road, on the right, stood the church of St. Anne, and its position today is marked with a stone mark. At the place where the road leads to the clearing on which hunting waiting is located, the place where the parish church of St. James was located was also marked in the same way. If we look at the edges of the forest surrounding the meadow, we will notice that on the north side of the meadow there is a passage, marked with markings, and we are heading towards the meadow. Here we enter the forest path that leads us to Zelengrad. Immediately before the fort, it is marked on the left and the third church - the church of St. John the Baptist.
The Old Town or Zelengrad (86 m) was a fortress of trapezoidal ground plan, located on a steep guard site, on a hill beneath which the Grdosel pot flows into the Butonig stream. It is mentioned for the first time in 1102, and it is also mentioned in the "Istrian divorce", a famous Glagolitic document from the beginning of the 14th century. As the owner of the castle in 1278 is mentioned Henrik Grdoselski, vassal of Count Gorica of Alberta II. The medieval village was further to the tip of the hill to the south, where remains of buildings were still visible in the oak grove. The village had even three churches: Sv. Ane, Sv. Ivan and the parish church of Sv. James. After the Soviet War (1615 - 1618) the inhabitants moved to the neighboring hamlet of Brdo, today's Grdoselo, where in 1680 the parish church of the name of Mary was built, until 1805. the function of the old parish church Sv. James. The positions of all three non-existent churches are marked with stone marks. From Zelengrad, one trail leads down to the Butoniga stream (52 m) and the pond with a waterfall called Crni puc, visible from the east-facing castellana. Since this part of the track is steep, it is not recommended for sloppy times.
To return from Zelengrad to Grdoselo it is best to use the track that follows the Grdosel stream upstream and which passes it several times (caution: it is not recommended for rainy weather). The trail will lead us to the source of Malenica, which is tied to the fact that its water is beneficial to the eyes, as it comes from the direction of the Beram shrine of the Mother of God on Škriljinah.

Bel percorso. In agosto purtroppo il torrente è in secca. Sempre segnato.
