This morning we walked through the gorges of the Soca and in the afternoon we go to the source of the same river. We go up the road 206 to the car park past the town of Trenta, just before the bends that lead to the Vrisc pass, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia. We start walking along the road towards Trenta until we find the bridge that crosses the river. From here we climb a beautiful path, we find the monument to Julius Kugy, a Slovenian mountaineer, botanist, humanist and writer, he came to these mountains to discover Scabiosa Trenta, he did not find it, but he fell in love with the landscape of the Trenta mountains and the Julian Alps, he wrote several books on this subject.
We go up the paved track that leads to the refuge of "Koca pri Izviru Soce", upon arrival we take the path that leaves behind the refuge and climbs to the source of the Soca, a permanent karst spring that springs from an underground chasm. It's a different stretch from the morning, the river is shallower and much faster. The last section to reach the source is quite aerial, you have to climb, there is a section equipped with ropes. we return to the refuge on the same path, from there we take the Soca trail that takes us to the parking lot where we started the walk.
