Itinerary description
Whilst Taipei’s northern and eastern hills tend to get most of the attention, this trail to the southwest of the city has plenty to offer the traveller who strays from the well-trodden trails of Yangmingshan Park. Indeed, as the locals know, Yonghe District has well-trodden paths of its own to explore. This route takes in ancient banyans, views to both the north and the south, all manner of trail types and enough temples to satisfy the very keenest of temple aficionados.

This passageway is on the right immediately after you finish the wooden steps down.
If you want to see the temple, then continue down the concrete steps, but to continue hiking you’ll need to go through here.

Surprisingly great trial. I suggest to also add a visit to the Yuantong Temple, what is only a small detour passing also the one sky line cave and tunnel.
Notice also that from October 2020 the trail into the Caidie Community had been closed for people who don’t live there. A new trail has been made to connect with Xingnan Road Section 3 to avoid that community. It’s marked with red ribbons.
Also notice that this hike is in Zhonghe (not Yonghe).
