Itinerary description

English
3 days trek (9-11 Feb 2019) around Shei Pa National Park to climb Xueshan Main Peak (Snow mountain) of 3886 m.
Day 1:
From Taipei we had to catch 2 buses; first to Yilan (1h) and from there a second one to Wuling Farm (3h). We walk the road until reaching the squad checkpoint, where they double check our permits (Note that should be applied online from 30 days to 1 week in advance). Afterwards you can keep walking or hitchhike to the trailhead, where we show again our permits.
Attention! A big group of monkeys might be found between the camping and the trailhead, hide your food or they will rob you! (as we experienced...)
The first part of the trekking consists on a walk through the forest until reaching the Chika cabin (1.5h), where we spent the first night. Bring with you an sleeping bag and a matress, food and water (you can call to the National Park in advance to make sure if there is tap water).
Day 2:
The second day leads us through the cane forests until reaching the Xueshan West Peak after a quite steep slope (aka the crying slope). From there we can see the 369 Cabin and we get there after a 30 min walk.
Day 3:
The third day we woke up around 3 am in order to reach the summit by sunrise, so we had to walk a couple of hours using a headlamp. After the Black Forest we get to the final rocky slope but without extra difficulties neither snow or ice. Although the strong wind in the summit we could enjoy the gorgeous views.
We descent following the same path to the entrance of the National Park. Make sure to catch the last bus (around 2pm) to Taipei or you will have to sleep in Wuling Farm.

As a side note I would add that there are savage-furious rock monkeys on the way, which surely not only adds an adverture-fun element, but also rises technical difficulty degree.
In any case, a terrific experience.
