Itinerary description
Starting out at Lynams bar & Hotel, head towards Rathdrum & turn right down the hill for the Woolen Mills. Take the Green Road to Glendalough. Once adjacent to The Kitchen, we took a right off to the otherside of the valley to get the sun & the views.
At the upper lake we crossed back the valley & started to climb up by Poulanass Waterfall. The walk from here on up is steady & mostly on forestry track.
Keeping Mullicor to your left, eventually you arrive at a boardwalk track off to the right. Pass through the gate & continue along to another gate. Sadly the boardwalk finishes here & one needs to navigate the uneven boggy ground along & down some large stone steps (hard on your knees at this point!). At the bottom turn left & follow the track towards Glenmalure.
There are great views of Ballinafunshogue waterfall &, as you descend, you come down by Coolalingo Waterfall & unto the main road. Turn right & left at the crossroads & the Glenmalure Lodge is on your left.
Overall this is a wonderful walk with rewarding views & steady ascents & descents. Nothing too taxing & with large backpacks to lug. Loved it.
