Itinerary description
Circular route to Wodehouse peak. If only spending one day at Golden Gate Highlands National Park, this is definitely the best and most complete route.
Starting point at Brandwag Hotel, where free parking area is available. This circuit can also be started at Glen Reenen Rest Camp, 1-2km away from Brandwag Hotel.
The trail is very easy to follow thanks to the marks and signs at the crossings.
From the top of the Wodehouse peak we can enjoy a complete panoramic view of the Golden Gate Highlands National Park and its impressive rocks, plus the magnificient Drakensberg mountains standing above anything else around.
In the way down, the trail passes below the Mushroom Rock and next to some other interesting spots such Echo Ravine, Boskloof and Brandwag Buttress. These last 3 places are not included in the Wodehouse circular trail, so in order to visit them it is necessary to take individual deviations from the Wodehouse track. About 30 extra minutes are required for each of the deviations.
There is a very short section at the end of the trail where we will find some chains to help us scrambling up the strong slope. It is nothing complex but it is recommended to follow the trail in the direction indicated in the map so the chains-section is faced in the way up, instead of doing it in the way down which could be slightly more complex.
