Itinerary description
This hike can easily be halved in length, as it is a combination of two separate loop hikes, both of which start at the Wirra Willa Rainforest walk carpark.
We did this as a day/night hike, and the destination is perfect for night hikes, given the paths are wide and therefore fairly easy and safe to do at night. It might be a bit slippery after rain, but it had been pretty dry for a few weeks when I visited and the ground was really comfortable underfoot - I didn't use poles. The ascent and descent feels fairly undulating and I was surprised by the stats at the end, as it didn't feel like that much climbing.
We did Myrtle Gully loop first, all in daylight hours, had dinner back at the start point and then tackled Tanglefoot, which is slightly longer and has more of an ascent, but the final downhill, which we did in the dark, was a gentle incline.
The best thing about doing this as a day/night option is the wonderful end of day light, the stars above once it's fully dark. You have the opportunity to spot animals you don't see during the day. We were 8 people and not the quietest, but still managed to see a possum and a crazy cool centipede. As well as some deer with massive antlers just outside the hike area when we were driving home.
Highly recommend this in daytime or at night.
