Itinerary description

A really nice hike in an area with lots of other choices. It starts out oddly, sharing a lane with a horse farm and you are sandwiched between two fence lines. But stick with it, about a kilometer in I hit a nice home where they were setting up a large tent for some function I wasn't invited to. After that it is a beautiful mixed forest that still has some large old growth trees that are pretty impressive.

The terrain undulates with no killer hills and while the signage promised a viewpoint, don't hold your breath. There are many ways to shorten or lengthen the hike with several junction points and easy connections to two neighbouring tracts with trails. This hike is appropriately named, it is a little wilder than others in the area, has a good dose of solitude and a fair amount of wildlife. I was lucky enough to see three skittish deer cross the trail ahead of me but wasn't fast enough to get a photo.

Would recommend this hike and I'll certainly do it again.

Parking lot

I parked as soon as I got off Brock Road. There is an official parking lot 70 meters down the lane to your right and it is a much better place to park. It includes a sign board with a map of the trails.

Trail signage is very good, with posts at regular intervals and each one has a map with corresponding notation. They also do a really cool thing... when you are reading the post you are facing north which makes navigating even easier!

With parking for 1 or 2 vehicles on road side. Joins with Walker Woods and Glen Major 50 metres north on the opposite side of the road. Starting here would eliminate the farm portion of the hike.
