Itinerary description

We could pay 150 GEL and go up by 4WD transportation, but even if our backpacks were tremendously heavy we preferred no to cheat and make all the way up from Mestia to Koruldi Lakes. Prepared to stay up there camping, we had time to walk calmly and because of the weight we follow the easier trail (big part of it was the dirt road).

After a stop at the cross on the Tshkhakezagari mountain we kept going up but searching for the fountain to refill water (Is not so easy as you noticed on our gps trail, the fountain was covered with a flat piece of wood at 6.6Km).

A few Kms before we reached the lakes, something went wrong with trail recording and it marked a straight line, anyways you just follow the dirt road until the lakes.

The lakes are nothing special (Muddy and non suitable to swim), but the scenario around and the clouds reflection on them turns this place somehow epic.

Special thanks to Mari (Guesthouse Am Museum) for the best Kada pie cookies in all entire Georgia :)

Travel tips for Georgia:
- Avoid long waiting queues to buy train tickets (specially in Tbilisi), just buy them online: https://beta.tkt.ge/railway
- If you want a bit more comfort than traveling in Marshrutkas, try Georgian regular buses (keep in mind that the insane driving style will still be present): http://www.georgianbus.com/?lang=_eng
- Grabbing a taxi is a challenge in Georgia, in Tbilisi for a regular 5 GEL round, drivers can actually ask you for 29 GEL!!! If you don't have patience for negotiation, use Taxify app.
