It is a long stretch of coastline of unquestionable beauty in South Africa that has many treasures to discover, between wild beaches and dense jungle. We will go through it in three stages, sleeping in the huts of the Xhosa ethnic group.
Wild Coast, ”the wild coast”, a very apt name to describe the haunting beauty of this coast: steep windswept cliffs that plunge to a turquoise blue Indian, green pastures dotted with cows and sheep, lush tropical vegetation and deep river valleys that merge with magnificent deserted white-sand beaches, and small Xhosa villages with unpaved streets and their typical rondavels (round huts with conical roofs, most of them painted turquoise blue) that live in perfect harmony with this beautiful environment. Along the way we stop to contemplate the great spectacles that the southern whales give us, at this time the females with their young pass through this coast.
Stage 1- Port St. Johns-Mqaleni. ((15.82 km)
We slept in a rondavels, without water and without light, although it was very precarious, the food was excellent considering the conditions.
The journey is difficult to describe, a real festival for the senses, not to mention the party that the whales had with their young.
We had to cross the Mgazi and Mngazana rivers in a small boat. In the second step we were deluged, we arrived wet, dirty and to top it off without water or electricity, however, it was a great day.
2nd Stage- Mqaleni-Tsweleni- (9.80 kms)
This stage we go further inland from village to village, but equally beautiful.
The accommodation is a backpcakers, very well located and already with electricity, water and shower.
3rd Stage Tsweleni-Hluleka. (15 km)
Here we found the broken bridge that we had to cross, we were forced to take a fairly dense path that scared us a little, especially because we had seen a snake a few minutes before and that did not inspire much confidence in me.
Once this stage is over, our vehicle picks us up again and another 4 hours by car. We arrived at Coffee Bay late, personally I think this part should be avoided, it doesn't add anything and it gets very heavy due to the type of road.
